At the end of last year, has been decided the fate of the railway line, which is to be built on the island of Gran Canaria, which will connect the city of Las Palmas and Maspalomas. The project involves seven companies and the cost of the creation of the line is estimated at ten million Euros. The line will consist of seven sections, eleven stations and will be completed in mid 2016. The first section between the stations of Santa Catalina and San Telmo will be run underground and will result the most complicated. The next stations will be Hospitales, Jinámar, Telde, Aeropuerto, Carrizal, Arinaga, Vecindario and Playa del Inglés.
Perhaps not everyone knows that in 1974, there already was in Las Palmas overhead train line TV-2 with a length of 1.5 kilometers, which stretched along the Avenida Marítima. The rails were mounted on pillars several meters high. Unfortunately, the authorities decided to close down the project at the turn of the years 1975 - 1976 and the line was dismantled. Here are some videos documenting that project TV-2.
