We were informed that on Sunday on the island of Gran Canaria a polish Choir of Boys and Men "Pueri Cantores Olivenses" directed by Jan Łukaszewski arrived. Next Wednesday, January 26th at 19:30 a concert in Gabinete Literario in Las Palmas will take place. Also on January 30th at 19:30 in the church of Santa Brígida, after a Mass with a Polish priest Maciek, will take place another performance. It promises a very interesting repertory and above all a great piece of Polish culture in a good execution.

At the end of last year, has been decided the fate of the railway line, which is to be built on the island of Gran Canaria, which will connect the city of Las Palmas and Maspalomas. The project involves seven companies and the cost of the creation of the line is estimated at ten million Euros. The line will consist of seven sections, eleven stations and will be completed in mid 2016. The first section between the stations of Santa Catalina and San Telmo will be run underground and will result the most complicated. The next stations will be Hospitales, Jinámar, Telde, Aeropuerto, Carrizal, Arinaga, Vecindario and Playa del Inglés.

Poles in Canary Islands

There is quite a bit of Poles living in the Canary Islands, but not as many as in Great Britain. There are several thousands of Poles living here and I think that the number of Poles who have chosen to live in the Canaries would be bigger if it wasn't for the distance between the islands and Poland. In any case, the Polish language cannot be heard here on the street as often as in the UK. I also think that an additional reason for this is that the Canary Islands are not a very easy place to live, unless you have a good education or speak Spanish fluently. However, there is an increasing interest in the Spanish language in Poland, so I think there will be the a wider group of Poles living in Canary Islands over the years.

There is an exacerbate debate on the existing ban on dogs in the area of the beach and promenade of Las Canteras. Dog owners and dog-rights defenders are calling for an increase in the number of places where dogs have access. Opponents, in turn, argue that this is not a good idea for reasons of safety and hygiene. Dog problems are concerning not only Las Canteras, but also public parks, where dog owners will have to use their designated places. There is over fifty thousand dogs registered in Las Palmas, and it can cause a big problem.

One of the five warmest months of December

Last December was one of the five warmest months of December over the past fifty years in the Canary Islands. The average temperature that month was 20.7°C on the coast. As for rain, it was the third of the driest in the last ten years, since rainfall amounted to just 41mm throughout the month. Only the December months in 2003 and 2006 were drier. It wasn't very windy month either, there were only two days with strong wind gusts, the 5th and 17th of December. We sympathize with all those who can't enjoy such weather in December.
